This kit is for making a modern version of zubombo paper toys, which were especially popular during the Edo period.
Throughout the Edo period, people enjoyed the movement of zubombo floating on the water by weighing them down with freshwater clams from the Sumida River, and fanning them with a paper fan. Even Katsushika Hokusai, a famous artist, included them in his ukiyo-e (woodblock prints).
